customer service 101
my roommate and i have this list of business in fayetteville where the people were apparently never trained in basic customer service. you have been to places like this before (its like that commercial on t.v. right now that plays "what the world needs now is love, sweet love" and it all about how people have no clue what customer service is). anyway, our list includes, in random order:Braums *sixth street*
kinkos
dollar general
U of A computer center
Springdale high school attendance office
Terry's towing
Crapplebee's... i mean, Applebee's
i was thinking about this today while i was eating my recently purchased cappuccino chunky chocolate frozen yogurt from braums. Fortunately, i was able to get in and out in under five minutes and without any casualties. feel free to add any that i missed and/or don't know about.

Madame Wu's on Mission & Crossover. It is also overpriced.
I would definitely add the Braum's on College. In the middle of our ice cream order the other night, 2 employees (apparently the only people working at that time) starting arguing about which register to use. They apparently forgot about us, because it took them about 2 minutes to turn their attention back to taking the rest of our order.
Elise and I had the conversation about how if someone bought Braum's, remodeled all of their stores (because let's face it, they are soooo 1987), and get a better management strategy, they would probably rock the casbah.
i'll add to the list..
Rice Village on dickson-- food good. service BAD...they insult their customers under their breath, and although they have lots of wait staff...you would think they were all hiding. took me 30 minutes to get a drink. go to shogun instead.
Lola's...boutique store. bunch of snobs in there..and are not very helpful..not to mention overinflated prices. STUCK UP.
the night staff at CG. not friendly. if you go to Common Grounds..go during the day. the night staff is just weird..except for John.
I second Rice Village. Good food, terrible service. And, I've NEVER liked Applebees service. Whenever we go there as a family, my dad ends up yelling at the waitress. Not a pretty picture.
I'd also add Blockbuster's new "No Late Fee" thing...what happened to them? Instead of a $1.00 late fee, it's now exponentially grown. Ugh.
And...as far as phone manners, SBC Customer Service is a joke.
Twice the ditto on Rice Village. Seriously...someone teach those people some common manners!
...and a gigantic DITTO on the Braums thing. I'm from Oklahoma, and the Braums that I grew up going to was always clean and nice. But the ones I've encountered in Arkansas STINK!
...and one for me...Fudruckers. I usually have to ask THEM if they are ready for me to order. Seriously...some eye contact and a "Hello, I'll be with you in just a second" is like SO hard or something!
Hello? What about Enterprise? They'll jack you up.
I must nominate Brewski's. No one will wait on you if you sit down at a table. And there is one guy, who happens to wear a beret, that I have sworn as my arch nemisis because he of the many times I have asked for one thing and ended up with nothing but a "Hey dude, what do you want again. Sorry, I walked up to the bar and I forgot because, well, I'm stoned."
oh yeah...second on the Brewski's, but for that window/door seating....sometimes...i did say sometimes...it's worth the wait. you might as well bring your own beer...i bet they wouldn't even notice...or perhaps the bottle will trigger them to ask "do you want another"... and then i'll responde..."well yes...i do."
WHAT??? CHRISTIANS DRINK BEER! I'm praying for your souls!
Well, here is my own list. Feel free to second anything on there.
1. China
2. Chinese banking
3. Any restaurant
4. Hua Lian (chinese walmart..ish)
5. My landlords mom (she lives below us and comes over at random times and... walks around doing nothing...roar.
6. Airport Taxi's
Wal Mart Neighborhood Market. AGH!
I once took back an UNOPENED package of princess chapstick, WITH a receipt and the "customer service" lady raked me over the coals. She accused me of not buying the chapstick there, etc.
I took back an unused baking sheet again WITH a receipt, and I was told that they don't sell that brand.
I have also returned meat that was getting brown before the date, and I was told it was because I turned the package upside down and the meat touched the plastic wrap. Give me a break! I'm an honest person who shops in that store a minimum of once per week, and I don't like being treated as if I'm trying to pull a fast one. I just don't have money to waste, and if my meat is going bad I want that money back. Is that too much to ask?
Oh, and I forgot to say, I used to work at Braums in the early 1990's. There is a distinct reason that their customer service stinks. . .they only offer negative incentives. There is nothing in their management style or training that encourages the employees to do well.
